THE BEST BJJ GYM IS WORTH THE DRIVE

Sand Springs carries a character that few Oklahoma communities can claim. Sitting just west of Tulsa along the Arkansas River, it is a town shaped by the river itself — by the Keystone Dam upstream, the wide green corridors of the Shell Creek watershed, and the ancient hardwood forests preserved at Keystone Ancient Forest. Founded in the early twentieth century by Charles Page as a planned community for orphans and widows, Sand Springs grew into a proud, close-knit city where neighbors know each other and residents take real ownership of their community. That same spirit — of showing up, of building something together, of doing things the right way — is exactly what training at Method Jiu-Jitsu is about.

Getting from Sand Springs to our gym at 5101 S. Sheridan Rd in Tulsa takes roughly 20 minutes under normal driving conditions. From downtown Sand Springs, head south on Highway 97 past the Shell Creek area toward I-44. Once you merge onto I-44 east, the majority of the drive is open freeway. Continue east past the inner-city exchanges and take the Sheridan Road exit heading south. You will reach our gym within half a mile of the ramp. The route avoids most surface-street congestion, so whether you are heading out at 5:00 AM for an early morning session or leaving home at 5:10 PM to catch the evening Fundamentals class, the drive is predictable and manageable.

Sand Springs residents who live closer to the river parks or the Lake Keystone area will know that heading east on Highway 97 past the Keystone Ancient Forest trailhead puts them in familiar territory before the highway ever reaches the Tulsa city limits. For those living in the neighborhoods along the Charles Page Boulevard corridor, the route to I-44 is a short and direct shot east. Distance-wise, Sand Springs is well within range for training two, three, or even four times per week — a frequency that most experienced BJJ practitioners will tell you is where real skill begins to compound.

Method Jiu-Jitsu attracts students who take their training seriously. Our adult program covers fundamental technique, guard passing, leg lock systems, and live drilling in a structured format designed to produce real skill at every belt level. Our NoGi program has become a destination for athletes who compete, and our Kids BJJ curriculum is one of the most developed in the Tulsa area. Families from Sand Springs find that the evening drive — east on 97, east on I-44, off at Sheridan — becomes part of the routine within a week or two. It stops feeling like a commute and starts feeling like part of the practice itself.

If you have been searching for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu near Sand Springs and keep finding options that feel like a compromise on quality, the answer is 20 minutes east. Yes. Our evening schedule runs six days a week and is designed for working adults. Monday and Wednesday offer 5:30 PM Fundamentals and 6:30 PM Advanced Gi classes. Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday have 6:00 PM NoGi sessions. Saturday morning is open mat from 9:00 AM. Nothing special is needed for your first visit. Show up in athletic shorts and a t-shirt — we handle the rest. If you decide to continue training, adult Gi classes require a kimono (gi) and a belt, while NoGi classes are trained in a rash guard and board shorts or compression pants. We will point you toward gear recommendations after your first class so you do not end up buying the wrong thing before you know exactly what you need.
Absolutely. The majority of our current members had zero martial arts experience when they walked in for the first time. Our Fundamentals program is structured specifically for beginners and covers core BJJ techniques at a pace that makes sense. You will never be thrown into a class where you are expected to already know the material. The coaches take first-timers seriously, and the culture on the mats reflects that — experienced students know what it is like to be a beginner and treat new people with genuine respect.
