KIDS JIU-JITSU

Building confident, disciplined, bully-proof kids through the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Ages 4–12 Two age groups Tue, Thu & Fri Free trial class

EVERY PARENT HAS QUESTIONS

Putting your child in a martial art raises real concerns. We understand every single one of them.

"Will my child get hurt? I don't want them coming home banged up."

"Is martial arts too aggressive? I don't want to teach my kid to fight."

"My kid is shy — will they fit in or just stand on the side and watch?"

"Is 4 years old too young? Will they even pay attention?"

A PROGRAM BUILT AROUND YOUR CHILD

We have heard every one of these concerns from parents just like you, and we take every single one of them seriously. That is exactly why we built our kids program the way we did. Method Jiu-Jitsu is not a "tough it out" environment. It is a structured, nurturing space where children grow at their own pace, surrounded by coaches who genuinely care about their development as people — not just grapplers.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is one of the safest martial arts in existence. There is no striking, no flying kicks, no chaos. It is a ground-based puzzle game — calm, methodical, and controlled. Kids learn to use leverage and technique rather than size and aggression. Our youngest students never feel thrown into the deep end. They play movement games, learn to listen, and build coordination before a single technique is introduced.

Shy kids do not stay shy for long. There is something uniquely equalizing about the mat. When a quiet, reserved child successfully completes a move they have been working on for two weeks, the confidence that floods their face is not something a soccer trophy can replicate. We see it every single week. Parents regularly tell us their child went from terrified on day one to walking into class with their head high by week four.

And yes — 4-year-olds can absolutely do this. Our Little Warriors class is specifically designed for early childhood development. We meet them exactly where they are, make it fun, and build from there. No child is too young, too small, too shy, or too behind. There is a place for every kid on our mats.

THREE THINGS THAT MAKE METHOD DIFFERENT

Our kids program is purpose-built around child development, not adult training scaled down.

AGE-APPROPRIATE CLASSES

Two separate programs — Little Warriors (ages 4–7) and Junior Grapplers (ages 8–12) — ensure your child trains with peers at their developmental level. A 10-year-old is never paired with a 5-year-old. Every drill, every game, every technique is calibrated for the age group in the room.

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT FOCUS

Respect, discipline, teamwork, and perseverance are woven into every single class — not just the moves. Coaches open and close every session with intention. We address how kids speak to each other, how they handle losing, and how they celebrate the wins of their teammates. The character work is not optional; it is the point.

ANTI-BULLYING SKILLS

BJJ gives kids the confidence to stand up for themselves and the practical tools to stay physically safe — without relying on aggression or escalation. A child who knows they can handle themselves rarely needs to prove it. We have seen kids completely transform their school experience within months of starting training.

WHAT HAPPENS ON THE MAT

Every class follows a consistent structure so kids know what to expect. Predictability builds comfort, and comfort builds confidence.

1
10 minutes

Warm-Up with Games and Movement Drills

We kick things off with high-energy movement games that build coordination, body awareness, and listening skills — while keeping it genuinely fun. Kids are moving from minute one.

2
20 minutes

Technique Lesson

Coaches introduce and break down one focused concept — a position, an escape, a sweep — with clear demonstrations and age-appropriate language. Kids learn by watching, then doing.

3
15 minutes

Partner Drills with Coaching

Students work in pairs, drilling the technique with active supervision. Coaches rotate through the room, offering individual feedback and making sure every child is progressing safely.

4
10 minutes

Mat Games and Controlled Practice

Supervised positional games let kids apply what they learned in a low-pressure, fun setting. Older Junior Grapplers get age-appropriate light sparring. Younger kids stick to guided games.

5
Close-out

Line-Up, Bow, and Positive Reinforcement

Every class ends with kids lined up by size, bowing to their coaches and each other. We close with shout-outs — specific praise for effort, improvement, or attitude shown during class. Kids leave feeling seen.

THE RIGHT CLASS FOR YOUR CHILD'S AGE

One size does not fit all. We keep the programs separate so every child is appropriately challenged.

Program One

LITTLE WARRIORS

Ages 4 – 7
Coordination & body awareness Listening skills Basic positions Game-based learning Fun first

This class is designed for young children who are still developing their attention span, spatial awareness, and motor coordination. We lean heavily on games and movement activities that happen to teach BJJ concepts — kids are too busy having fun to realize they are learning a martial art. There is zero pressure, zero intensity. We meet every child exactly where they are and build trust and comfort before anything else. The goal at this age is simple: love coming to class.

Tuesday 4:10 PM – 5:00 PM
Thursday 4:10 PM – 5:00 PM
Program Two

JUNIOR GRAPPLERS

Ages 8 – 12
Deeper technique Light sparring Belt progression Competition prep available Leadership skills

Older kids are ready for more. Junior Grapplers spend real time drilling technique, understanding positions, and beginning to spar in a controlled, safe environment. Coaches introduce belt stripe and belt progression here, giving kids tangible milestones to work toward. Students who want to compete can join our Kids Competition Team on Fridays — but competition is always entirely optional. Many Junior Grapplers train purely for the love of the art.

WHAT PARENTS ARE SAYING

Real results from real families training at Method.

My son was being bullied at school. After three months at Method, his confidence is through the roof. He doesn't even talk about the bullying anymore — he just carries himself differently. I genuinely didn't expect that kind of change this fast.

Both my daughters train here now. They love it and have become so much more focused at school. Their teachers have noticed. I started them thinking it would be a fun activity — it has turned into something they take real pride in.

Parent of two students, ages 6 and 9

Coach Dallas is incredible with kids. Patient, fun, but teaches real discipline. My son tries to drag ME to class at this point. The structure they run is tight — every minute of class has a purpose — but the kids genuinely don't want to leave when it ends.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We accept children as young as 4 years old in our Little Warriors program. At this age, the focus is entirely on fun, coordination, listening skills, and basic body movement — not complex technique. Children are never pressured and always progress at their own pace. If your child is between 4 and 6 and you are unsure if they are ready, come watch a class or bring them for their free trial. We will let you know honestly whether the timing feels right.
Yes — kids BJJ at Method is very safe. Classes are supervised by experienced coaches, fully age-appropriate, and contain no striking of any kind. Younger children focus on positional games and movement; older kids progress to controlled partner drills with active supervision throughout. BJJ's ground-based nature means kids are not at risk of falls or the kinds of contact you see in striking arts. Injuries at the kids level are extremely rare. Your child's safety is our first responsibility.
The opposite is consistently true. BJJ builds confidence, self-control, and composure under pressure. Kids who train consistently learn that they do not need to act aggressively to feel safe or capable. A child who knows they can handle themselves physically rarely feels the need to prove it. Most parents tell us their children become calmer, more patient, more focused, and more respectful at home and at school within the first few months of training.
Just bring your child in comfortable athletic clothes — a t-shirt and shorts or athletic pants work perfectly for the first class. There is no uniform requirement for a free trial class. After they decide they love it, we will help you get a properly fitted gi (the traditional BJJ uniform). We can recommend where to purchase one locally or online without overpaying.
Twice a week is the sweet spot for most kids — consistent enough to build real skill and a reliable routine, without overwhelming a busy family schedule. Our classes run Tuesday and Thursday, making it easy to fit into your week. Kids who come consistently twice a week make remarkable progress within just a few months. Even once a week is meaningful. The most important thing is consistency over time, not frequency in the short term.
Yes. Junior Grapplers (ages 8–12) who are interested in competing can join our Kids Competition Team, which trains every Friday at 5:00 PM. The comp team focuses on live drilling, tournament strategy, and mental preparation for competing. That said, competition is always entirely optional — many of our Junior Grapplers train purely for the life skills, self-defense, and community without ever entering a tournament, and that is completely valid. We never pressure kids or families toward competition.

No commitment. No experience needed.
